In Memoriam: Adolph D. "Jake" Jacobson, Lt Col (ret) USAF (1931-2017)

In Memoriam: Adolph D. “Jake” Jacobson
Jake Jacobson (LtCol, USAF) was born in Austin, Texas and grew up on the east side.  He graduated from Austin High School and enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin.  Economics forced him to quit school and enlist in the US Air Force as a private.  He rose to the rank of buck sergeant and accepted the opportunity to join the Aviation Cadet Program, graduating as a Radar Intercept Officer in 1953.  Following his marriage to Barbara Miller of Brady, Texas, he attended Navigator Training and then Pilot Training, making him one of few entitled to wear three sets of Air Force wings.  After a nearly 25-year Air Force career, flying airframes that included the F-89, F-101 Voodoo, T-33 T-Bird, F-102 Delta Dagger, F-106 Delta Dart, VC-121A, F-4 Phantom II and assignments in Pakistan, Vietnam (134 combat missions, 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 5 Air Medals and a Joint Service Commendation Medal) and Venezuela, Jake retired in San Antonio with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, finishing his bachelor’s degree and entering St. Mary’s University School of Law.  On graduation, he hung out his shingle in a solo law practice out of his home.  In a 36-year career, Jake gained a reputation as a thorough, well-prepared, highly ethical and creative litigator, probate attorney and municipal lawyer.  He retired in April 2015 and died on October 23, 2017, leaving wife Dr. Barbara Jacobson, son Dana Jacobson, daughter Kathy Ogletree, five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Dana D. Jacobson
Dana Jacobson (Col, USAFR) was born in Southampton, New York while his father was flying fighters out of Suffolk County AFB.  A proud “Air Force brat”, Dana went to 10 schools in 12 years, living in New York, Virginia, Pakistan, Florida, Arizona and Venezuela by age 17.  He graduated from Colegio Internacional de Caracas and attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with a degree in Radio-Television Film in 1978.  Following 3 years in Texas radio as a news and traffic reporter, Dana attended St. Mary’s University School of Law, graduating in 1985.  He joined the US Air Force as a First Lieutenant and a judge advocate following his marriage to the former Betsy Clark, with first duty station at Cannon AFB, NM. Following 2 ½ years at Howard AFB, Panama as a Chief, Military Justice and an Area Defense Counsel, Dana served as a Circuit Defense Counsel at Randolph AFB, TX before becoming a Medical Law Consultant at Wilford Hall Medical Center, the world’s largest military medical center at the time.  He left active duty in 1991 to become a medical malpractice defense attorney at Thornton, Summers, Biechlin, Dunham and Brown in San Antonio.  He remained in the Air Force Judge Advocate General’s Corps Reserve, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 2016 and holding Top Secret/SCI clearance for 10 years. After several years as an insurance defense attorney, Dana joined Jake as a partner in Hardy Jacobson Gazda & Jacobson, P.C..  He has over 200 trials to a jury verdict but concentrates in estate planning, probate, business law, municipal law as a judge, prosecutor and city attorney, and security clearance matters.  Dana has been married to Betsy for over 34 years and they have two daughters, Rachel Mangum and Mara Babb, and one grandson, Zeke.
