Military to Business Transitions
Military service is an excellent training ground for business entrepreneurship – military members learn to think independently, problem-solve in real time, take an impossible situation and make it a success, analyze multi-dimensionally, act quickly on perishable intelligence and generally wreak havoc on the competition.
What the military doesn’t tell you is how to become a small business owner. With all the things the Transition Assistance Program covers, starting your own small business and the pitfalls involved are often not included. Sure, they give you the Small Business Administration website and some minor tips, but not the kind of read-in you need in order to protect your ass(ets) and know the environment.
Enter the Jacobson Law Firm. As military veterans and long-time business owners ourselves, we’re well aware of the transition between military service and private business and the things that will make or break your initial foray into owning your own business. We’ve started hundreds of businesses and serve as general counsel to many of those businesses today. From government contractors to medical practices, we have the training, background and experience to lead you through the minefield of choice of entity, formation of the business, hooking you up with other professionals like CPAs, lenders, financial planners and the like. Need a security clearance? We’ll guide you through the e-QIP process. Looking for office space? We’ll refer you to people who know the area inside and out. Want to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP)? Interested in taking a loan against your TSP account to fund startup expenses? We’ll talk you through the decision tree (including whether do to it at all).
We don’t just tell you how to start your small business. We walk with you, advise you, protect you and represent you (if you want us to). We have a Registered Agent Program where, for a small annual fee, we accept service of process on your behalf, file your required annual Public Information Report, send you reminders and questionnaires for your annual meeting minutes and then prepare those minutes (why is that crucial? Ask us!).
Give us a call at (210) 341-1333 or shoot us an email here to start the conversation.
